Meet the new Kaleidoscope

For the past year, we’ve been working hard on modernizing Kaleidoscope, and today we’re proud to release Version 3!

Kaleidoscope 3 with its beautiful new Dark Appearance

Kaleidoscope 3 is a milestone for the app. We have listened to your feedback and enhanced the app accordingly, with new tools for inspecting version control changesets and more settings for text comparisons. We have also brought a fresh new design specifically tailored for macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey, including support for the Apple M1 chip.

Our goal was to modernize this longtime favorite essential app. We’re very excited about the results, and we can’t wait to hear what you think!

Focus on what counts

The new Reader view allows you to turn off all distractions and focus only on the content!

The new Reader, showing Text in Blocks View. This also works nicely in fullscreen.

In addition, you can now customize fonts, line height, and tab width. Line numbers in your way? Now you can turn them off. And with the new line wrap control, you choose how Kaleidoscope breaks a section of text into lines so that it will fit  the width your window.

Improvements to Version Control Changesets

Now you can quickly search for files by name or file extension.

We’ve also added the ability to filter files that have been changed, added, or deleted in a version control changeset.

We can even show you which files have been moved or renamed in a changeset.

Our goal is to improve the workflow of professional developers and we’re eager to hear what you think.

Just The Beginning

In Version 3, Kaleidoscope is already very powerful, with the ability to review changesets and solve merge conflicts.

And nothing reflects better the direction we are going than the Xcode Integration.

Now Kaleidoscope is an invaluable tool that helps you gain a better understanding of your application’s state by sending snapshots from the Xcode debugger or automatically-triggered breakpoint commands.

We are on a mission to make Kaleidoscope more flexible than ever, so that it can adapt to how you like to work. And we are just getting started!
